World Champion’s New Check-Out!

John ‘Boy’ Walton was recently spotted ‘putting in a shift’ Co-op in Sheffield.

With supermarket staff performing a vital task, during the current Covid dominated times, its no surprise to see darts stars on the front lines. Former (Lakeside) World Champion Walton is no exception.

Walton, 58, was reported, by The Sun Newspaper, to be working in a branch of the well known food and convenience store.

The paper claimed “he was spotted stacking shelves by the BBC’s Dan Walker”.

Dan tweeted:

“What a treat to bump into 2001 darts World Champion John ‘Boy’ Walton at our local @coop_food in Sheffield.

“Lovely chat in the home baking and canned fish aisle.”

Darts champions have never been afraid of hard work. Martin Phillips famously returned to work ‘on the bins’ after a tremendous run in the Grand Slam of Darts. Diminutive PDC player Darren Webster regularly posts pictures of his work in ‘the trades’. Legend has it that Phil Taylor made toilet chain handles for a living.

So, fair play to Team Datadart thrower ‘John Boy’ for his efforts in keeping food on the shelves. Darts World and, we’re sure, the wider darts family will look forward to seeing you back ‘on the Oche’ very soon.

Freemium Day 13: Lucky for Some!

In May, Darts World launched its special ‘Lockdown Archive’ also known as ‘Darts World Freemium‘. The archive was set up to help entertain darts fans during these tough times.

Back in April 2018 Gary Anderson featured on our cover. Gary and Michael Smith also gave an interview for the magazine, John Gwynne offered his thoughts on ‘darting around’ Australia and Rob Cross’s (Target) darts were reviewed.

With Gary reaching the final of the PDC Home Tour last night we thought fans might enjoy a look back at his previous success. There are more than 50 issues available, free of charge, by simply clicking here.

Whatever your darting interest, there’ll be something for you!

Betway Premier League - Fixtures Confirmation

Target’s Big Guns Go Head To Head – Taylor & RVB Stage Remote Re-Match.

One of the early LockDown darts headlines involved Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld, in an internet-based, Paddy Power backed, re-staging of their classic 2007 World final.

RVB claimed the match after coming from a long way behind (not unlike the original), but charity was the main beneficiary, with the NHS being Phil’s chosen cause.

The two, Target backed, legendary dartists used a ‘soft-tip’ Nexus board for their first LockDown encounter. Tonight they will play again using a more traditional steel-tip, and sisal board, set up:

Details from Target:

The game, which is the first to 11 legs, will be played from Stoke and Den Haag with scoring taking place remotely as the players film and call out their own scores from home.

Viewers will be able to watch the game on Target Darts’ YouTubeFacebook and Twitter channels at 19:00 BST / 20:00 CET tomorrow (Thursday 4th June).

Battle of the O’Sheas!

Former World Master John will have bragging rights, for now, in the battle to be dart’s No.1 O’Shea. The jovial Irishman defeated his illustrious namesake Tony O’Shea in last nights edition of The Remote Darts League:

In the second game of the night saw the battle of the O’Shea’s as Englishman Tony O’Shea took on Irishman John O’Shea. The match kicked off with Tony firing in a 1st 180 but squandering 4 darts at the outer ring which allowed John to step in and take the leg in 16 darts to break the throw. He then
backed it up with a 20 dart leg to move 2-0 ahead.

Tony then picked up his 1st leg of the match in 19 darts, which ended up being his only leg won as John then rattled off 4 consecutive legs which included 2 180’s and winning legs in 16, 11, 20 and 14 darts respectively to take the match 6-1 and move 3 points ahead of Tony in the league phase going into game 3 of the evening.

We are sure Tony will be out to reclaim ‘The World’s Best O Shea’ title at the first opportunity!
